There are a few themes which are important in finding your Flow and attracting wealth, abundance or whatever you seek.
Self-esteem is the first and most important – beyond even the strategies and the technicalities of creating wealth. In working with clients I have found this and the subject of personal responsibility are the single most important (and often concealed) issues which need to be addressed before the person feels worthy of gaining anything beyond their current lot.
I say personal responsibility, because until we realise that we are creating our circumstances on a moment to moment basis, we are relinquishing the control we have over our world and literally giving our power away to random, external forces.
The subject of personal responsibility and self-esteem are both tightly related to a specific energy centre in the body: that of the solar plexus, or third chakra.
Traditionally we think of the second chakra being the one which dominates issues of material control and finances in our lives, and this is certainly true to an extent. However, working specifically with individuals who want more money in their lives I’ve found it more effective to work on the issues of the third chakra first: those of identity, responsibility and self-esteem. This have proven most efficient in clearing the way to success.
A chakra is an energy centre in the body which draws in (and emits) energy and information to and from the surroundings. Each energy centre is related to a specific detail or aspect of our lives. This is something we will explore in the next chapter, but for now it is enough to understand that the third chakra, situated at the solar plexus, is the one which governs self-esteem, our sense of responsibility and our sense of identity.
Self-esteem is defined as a realistic genuine respect for one’s own Self. This can also be called Self-Respect. Some teachers eloquently refer to is as an ability to Honour One’s Own Spirit – an equally valid definition.
Often I talk with people and they say things about themselves which they wouldn’t dream of saying about another person…at least not unless they were in a heavily altered state (say… anger?!).
Self esteem is important because without it we always find ourselves unworthy.
Without it we are unworthy of attracting more wealth, unworthy of holding on to any money, unworthy of that dream relationship we see everyone else has and we cannot expect for ourselves, unworthy of a position of responsibility, unworthy of winning that competition, or taking a chance, going over to talk to someone new, or even just occupying space in other people’s company!
In essence, when this energy centre which governs our self-esteem and responsibility is depleted we find ourselves in sabotage mode, constantly operating to slow things down, and letting opportunities fall over, because we feel we’re not ready to experience the next level of success.
One of my favourite wealth teachers, Roger Hamilton, says:
“Our greatest fear for not taking action today is that we believe we don’t have what t takes to make it tomorrow.”
So, even if you think you can’t (whatever your “can’t” is), can you let it be as it is, and give yourself approval just for being you?
I suggest giving yourself approval, and praise every time you remember to. I do it constantly, and I encourage my coachees to do the same, with incredible results. Even if you start off every morning, and end every day, just giving yourself that feeling of approval for five minutes you will see phenomenal gains in every area of your life… because you feel you deserve these good things.
Try it just for a week, and let me know how you get on in the comments below.
To your inevitable success….

It is possible that you may be over thinking things a little. There is a very fine line between self esteem and the ego. The ego thinks and is always seeking a way to what the heart wants. The process involves to ‘be’… in that mode of receiving and balancing the needs of the self with the needs of others.
In the same way as black and white, sun and moon – giving and receiving are equally important because one cannot exist without the other. Spiritual seekers tend to learn this lesson the hard way by giving too much, then one day they wake up to realise their own truth, their own needs and desires.
So if we feel the way forward in life by trusting our gut, then there is no need to over analyse the dynamics involved because thinking just gets in the way! If it feels right, do it.
Hi Laura
I and my husband run a magazine in Sweden called Inspire, which is a Body, Mind and Spirit Guide to Well-Being (www.inspiremagazine.eu, or on facebook search on inspire tidningen).
I regularly interview Hay House authors (. Would like to be interviewed by email by us to go in our issue, which comes out in May?
