You Are The Dreamer and The Creator

Have youseen Inception? If you haven’t, its well worth taking the time out to see – if not for the movie’s sake then for the stunning concepts it uses in the plot.

Like The Matrix, there are some deep meta-physical truths to get your head round!
It centres around a concept whereby the heroic team enter the dream of a very powerful businessman in order to place the thought that he should break up his father’s empire. They do this using high-tech equipment which allows them to share dreams.

The dreamer (the business man) thinks he is in his own dream, when actually he is in one of the team memebrs dreams. This means the team are able to manipulate the dream to their ends.

My favourite aspect is explained in the cafe scene, where Leo’s character, Cobb, is explaining the nature of dreaming to his new apprentice, Adriadne. Adriadne has been brought on to be the “architect” of the dream. She builds the dream.

But how can someone build the dream, and someone else experience it?

Well, this is the whole point.

Cobb explains that normally dreams are Created and Experinenced at the same time, even though we’re not aware of it. The process they use to take over a dream uses just this mechanism… They become the Creator of the dream, and the Dreamer keeps on dreaming as normal.

But this is so much like our normal experience. We go through life, and indeed our dreams, believing that we are not creating every second of them!

Where then, does the architecture of our world come from, if not from within the same mind that is experiencing them? In a dream, it comes from the subconscious – which when we lucid dream, we start to see that we can consciously change what is happening in the movie, and dictate outcomes and experiences as we dream.

Creator DreamerThe waking state is no different.

Its just that we have forgotten we’re still dreaming. We still think that we are at the mercy of our subconscious programming, or that we are subject to structures that are imposed on us.

Instead, we are actually still the Creator of the dream, and the Dreamer.

What I love about waking up to this awareness is that it allows us to suddenly become incredibly powerful in our ability to shape our world: from the structrues, to the experiences, to the outcomes and events which we conjure up!

The Dreamer and the Creator were always one in the same.

Let’s start living like that.
